Wales<\/strong> (Welsh<\/a>: Cymru) is a part of the United Kingdom<\/a>. It is one of the five Celtic<\/a> nations, and is to the west<\/a> of England<\/a>. The capital of Wales is Cardiff<\/a> (Welsh: Caerdydd<\/em>), which has around 325,000 people. The National Assembly of Wales is in Cardiff.<\/p>\n

The highest mountains in Wales are in Gwynedd<\/a>, in the north-west, and include Snowdon<\/a> (or Yr Wyddfa<\/em>), which is the highest peak in Wales at 1085 m (3,560 ft).<\/p>\n

Wales has a population of just under three million people. The majority of the population lives in the South<\/a> and the East<\/a> of the country. The main languages spoken in Wales are Welsh<\/a> and English<\/a>. Welsh is a Celtic language<\/a>, and about one out of every five people in Wales speaks it.<\/p>\n
